| 卵かけご飯は大丈夫？〜きちんとした情報が欲しい |
11日付朝日新聞の社会面に「サルモネラ菌小４女児死亡−大阪、生卵で感染か」という見出しの記事が載った。いわゆるベタ記事だったから、気が付かない人も多かったかもしれない。
要約すると、４月７日に冷蔵庫にあった生卵をご飯にかけて食べたら、翌朝下痢や腹痛を訴え、その夜に容態が急変して入院。児童の便からサルモネラ・エンテリティディス菌を検出。治療を続けてきたが、７月９日に脳症で死亡。生卵からの感染の疑いが強いと市の担当者が発表。同じく卵かけご飯を食べた妹からも菌を検出したが、軽症だったというもの。生卵をかけてご飯を食べることが好きなので、ちょっとショックだった。
ただ、この記事を読んでいくつもの疑問がわいた。

��どこが出荷し、どんな育て方をした卵なのか。
同紙の記事だけではよく分からないので、他紙でどう扱われているのか、ネットで検索してみた。
読売新聞では、卵を買ったのは７日朝であること、サルモネラ菌での子どもの死亡は２００２年８月横浜市での事例以来であると書いてあるが、これが卵からの感染かどうかまでは書いていない。
産経新聞では、残っていた６個の卵からは菌が検出されなかったことや生産者側の調査でも同様の症状が出たという報告は確認できていないとし、「生卵が疑わしいが、断定はできない」と少しニュアンスが違う。
疑問が払しょくされないばかりか、産経新聞の記事を読むと、「本当に生卵が原因なのか」という疑惑さえ感じる。
ネットで見る限り、食中毒の原因の第一位がサルモネラ菌だという。サルモネラ菌は約2300種類で、「エンテリティディス」というタイプは、89年以降最も多く検出され、鶏の腸から血液には入り、卵管、卵巣を経て卵の中に潜り込み、「生卵を食べる日本人には怖い」と書いてある。
鶏の飼い方、衛生管理に注意した新鮮な卵を選ぶ、パックのまま冷蔵庫に保存し、一週間を目安に食べきることなどの注意事項も記されている。
これらの情報から考えたのは、マスコミの情報の不十分さと安全な食品をどうやって手に入れるかということだった。
マスコミ情報のあいまいさが読者をミスリードすることはよくある。それが時として風評被害となる場合もある。かつてニュースステーションの報道で所沢のホウレンソウが大変な事態となり、訴訟に発展したことは記憶に新しい。
新聞の限られた紙面でどこまで正確に伝えられるかということはあると思うが、少なくとも新鮮な卵だったのか、卵からの感染事例などは取材すれば分かるはずで、その努力を怠っていなかったのかどうか。食の安全に関することは重大な関心事であり、「ベタ記事だから…」と軽く扱われたのでは困る。
安全な食品は、大量生産、流通の複雑化、たびたび報道される表示の偽装などを考えると、できるだけ顔の見える関係で手に入れる以外にはないのではないか。
卵なら、どんな場所（ゲージ飼い、放し飼い…）で、どんな飼料を与えて、殻を何を使って洗っているか、そんな情報をきちんと提供している生産者から買いたい。
しかも、新鮮さを考えれば、地産地消。手間が掛かっているから、少々高くなったとしてもだ。それが地元の生産者を勇気づけ、商売として成り立たせることにつながる。
そんな産直が身近にあるわれわれは、実は大変豊かなのかもしれない。（ゼロテン）
